AUDITIONS

Group Auditions & Callbacks Are Back!

Step into the spotlight and be part of something extraordinary! Whether you're a seasoned performer or just starting out, Desert TheatreWorks invites you to share your talent and passion for community theatre.

We’re thrilled to bring back in-person group auditions for the first time since 2019. This season, all auditions and callbacks will be held live—no video submissions will be accepted for non-professional contracts.

🔔 All performers must audition—even if you’ve worked with DTW in the past.

📅 Audition Schedule

All auditions begin at 10:00 AM and will be held at:
The Indio Performing Arts Center
45175 Fargo Street, Indio, CA 92201

Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie and inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue: On Stage is a fast-paced farce filled with mystery, murder, and madcap mayhem. The story unfolds on a dark and stormy night at Boddy Manor, where six eccentric guests are invited to a mysterious dinner party. When their enigmatic host, Mr. Boddy, turns up dead, they must work together—while also suspecting one another—to uncover the murderer before the body count rises. With zany twists, rapid-fire dialogue, and a hilarious mix of slapstick and suspense, Clue: On Stage is a thrilling whodunit that keeps audiences laughing and guessing until the final reveal.

Synopsis:

Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is a gripping drama set during the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, exploring mass hysteria, power, and morality. The play follows John Proctor, a respected but flawed farmer, who becomes entangled in the town’s paranoia when a group of young girls, led by the cunning Abigail Williams, falsely accuse others of witchcraft to protect themselves. As the trials spiral out of control, fear and suspicion consume Salem, leading to wrongful imprisonments and executions.

As Proctor struggles with his own guilt and integrity, he is faced with a harrowing choice—confess to a lie to save his life or stand by the truth and face the gallows. A powerful allegory for McCarthy-era persecution, The Crucible remains a timeless exploration of the dangers of fanaticism and the cost of personal conscience.

Synopsis:

Benjamin Braddock has just graduated from college, full of potential and paralyzed by uncertainty. Adrift in a world of high expectations and middle-class comforts, Ben’s life takes a scandalous turn when he’s seduced by Mrs. Robinson, the elegant and much older wife of his father’s business partner. But complications intensify when Ben unexpectedly falls in love with her daughter, Elaine.

Set in the 1960s but still crackling with themes of alienation, rebellion, and the search for identity, The Graduate is a darkly comedic and provocative coming-of-age story. With sharp dialogue, intense emotional turns, and iconic moments from the source material, the play explores the confusion of youth, the hypocrisy of adulthood, and the dangerous thrill of stepping off the expected path.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Leads:

  • Benjamin Braddock (early 20s, male-presenting) – Recently graduated from college and struggling to find direction. Intelligent, awkward, and increasingly disillusioned with the life planned for him. Vulnerable yet impulsively bold.

  • Mrs. Robinson (40s–50s, female-presenting) – Sophisticated, bored, and bitter. She seduces Benjamin not out of passion but as a way to escape her own stagnant existence. Sharp, icy, and emotionally guarded.

  • Elaine Robinson (early 20s, female-presenting) – Mrs. Robinson’s daughter. Bright, warm, and idealistic. Her genuine kindness and curiosity stand in contrast to the jaded adults around her. She becomes Benjamin’s hope for redemption.

  • Mr. Robinson (40s–50s, male-presenting) – Mrs. Robinson’s husband and Elaine’s father. A successful businessman and family friend of the Braddocks. Clueless about his wife’s unhappiness and Ben’s betrayal—until it’s too late.

Synopsis:

It’s Christmastime in the tiny town of Doublewide, Texas, and the Futrelle sisters—Frankie, Twink, and Rhonda Lynn—are dealing with holiday chaos, Southern-style! Frankie is stressed trying to create the perfect Christmas for her cranky mother-in-law, Twink is serving time in county jail for inadvertently burning down half the town, and Rhonda Lynn is desperately trying to keep the local trailer park’s Christmas festivities on track. Meanwhile, an outsider threatens to annex their beloved town, and the residents must rally to prove Doublewide is worth saving—while keeping their Christmas spirit alive. Full of over-the-top characters, festive hilarity, and classic Texas charm, A Doublewide, Texas Christmas is a laugh-out-loud holiday comedy with big hearts, big personalities, and even bigger Christmas decorations!

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Leads:

  • Frankie Futrelle Dubberly (40s–50s, female-presenting) – The responsible but exasperated eldest Futrelle sister. She’s trying to keep the holidays perfect while dealing with family chaos and a mother-in-law from hell.

  • Twink Futrelle (40s–50s, female-presenting) – The middle sister and the town’s lovable troublemaker. Currently in county lockup for arson, Twink is feisty, dramatic, and always up to something.

  • Rhonda Lynn Lampley (40s–50s, female-presenting) – The youngest Futrelle sister and owner of the local diner. She’s warm-hearted and optimistic but has a tough streak when it comes to protecting her town.

  • Darlene Seward (20s–30s, female-presenting) – The sassy, slightly naive beauty queen-turned-city secretary. She’s got big dreams but isn’t always the sharpest tool in the shed.

  • Haywood Sloggett (60s+, male-presenting) – The town’s cantankerous, grumpy old man who secretly has a soft spot for Christmas. He’d rather be left alone but somehow gets pulled into the town’s antics.

Supporting:

  • Patsy Price (50s–60s, female-presenting) – The overly ambitious, high-strung Doublewide mayor. She’s determined to keep the town together, even if her leadership skills are questionable.

  • Georgia Dean Rudd (40s–50s, female-presenting) – A tough-talking trailer park resident with a heart of gold. She’s a fiercely loyal friend and a no-nonsense woman with a sharp tongue.

  • Nash Sloggett (30s–40s, male-presenting) – Haywood’s good-natured but clueless son. He means well but isn’t exactly the brightest star on the Christmas tree.

  • Lark Barken (30s–50s, female-presenting) – A quirky and eccentric woman who thrives on conspiracy theories and wild ideas. A classic small-town character with big opinions.

  • Eddie Mack Strayhorn (40s–60s, male-presenting) – A well-meaning but dim-witted town handyman who somehow always finds himself in the middle of the madness.

  • Leonard (Any age, male-presenting) – A Christmas-loving oddball who takes his holiday decorating very seriously. He’s got an infectious enthusiasm for all things festive.
